Klip Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 6, 2026

The short version: Klip does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your data — ever. Everything Klip stores lives only on your own Mac. There is no server, no account, and no analytics.

What Klip Is

Klip is a clipboard history manager for macOS. It watches your Mac's clipboard (the system pasteboard) and keeps a local, searchable history of text, links, and images you copy, so you can paste something you copied earlier.

What Data Klip Collects

None. Klip does not collect any data about you, your device, or your usage. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporting service, no advertising framework, and no telemetry of any kind built into the app. This is not just a policy choice — the app's source code contains no networking code at all (no URLSession, no sockets, nothing) outside of what Apple's own StoreKit framework uses to process in-app purchases.

What Klip Stores, and Where

DataStored whereLeaves your Mac?
Clipboard text & linksLocal SwiftData database, inside Klip's sandboxed app containerNo
Clipboard imagesLocal file storage under Application Support/Klip/ImagesNo
Your Settings (history length, hotkey choice, pause state, etc.)Local UserDefaults on your MacNo
Purchase / subscription statusManaged entirely by Apple's StoreKit; Klip only reads back an entitlement flagHandled by Apple, not Klip

If you use Time Machine, iCloud device backup, or Migration Assistant, your Klip data will be included in those backups the same way any other locally-stored app data would be — that is a macOS system behavior, not something Klip configures or controls.

Clipboard Content We Deliberately Never Capture

Many password managers and secure-notes apps mark sensitive copies with special pasteboard flags (org.nspasteboard.ConcealedType and org.nspasteboard.TransientType) specifically so clipboard managers know to leave that content alone. Klip checks for these flags before recording anything, and if they're present, Klip skips that clipboard event entirely — the content never enters Klip's history, database, or memory beyond the momentary check. Your passwords and one-time-use secrets are never stored by Klip.

Network Access

Klip's own code makes zero network requests. The only network activity that can occur while using Klip is initiated by Apple's StoreKit framework when you view or purchase Klip Pro — the same system framework every App Store app uses for in-app purchases. Klip never adds its own networking, analytics, or advertising calls on top of that.

Data Sharing & Third Parties

Klip does not share, sell, rent, or otherwise disclose your data to any third party, because Klip does not collect or transmit your data in the first place. There are no third-party SDKs bundled with Klip beyond Apple's own system frameworks (SwiftUI, SwiftData, StoreKit, Carbon).

Children's Privacy

Klip does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children, because it does not collect data from anyone at all.

Your Choices

Changes to This Policy

If this policy ever changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change too. Given Klip's architecture has no networking layer to add telemetry to without a substantial rewrite, we don't expect this policy to change in any way that reduces your privacy.

Contact

Questions about this policy or how Klip works can be sent to the developer via the support contact listed on Klip's Mac App Store page.
